Rev. Michael Hill, 92 retired Baptist minister, died Monday afternoon at the home of a son, J. A. Hill, 1924 Yamparika Street, after a prolonged illness. He had been in a critical condition for several days.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of which Rev. Hill was a member, Tuesday morning under the direction of Rev. E. S. James the pastor.
The body was taken to Bowie immediately after the services here for burial in the Bowie Cemetery beside his wife, who died Dec. 14, 1917. A Bowie mortuary is in charge of arrangements, and Bowie Masons were to conduct final rites at the cemetery.
Surviving Rev. Hill are two sons, D. F. Hill of Alabama City, Ala., J. A. Hill of Vernon; one daughter, Mrs. J. A. McLendon of Bowie; and 73 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Of his 92 descendants, 76 survive him.
Born in Franklin County, Tenn., on July 13, 1846, Rev. Hill moved with his family to Scottsboro, Ala., in 1859 and he resided there until he came to Texas on Jan. 12, 1908. He was ordained as a deacon in an Alabama Baptist Church in September, 1884, and a month later was ordained as a minister. For a number of years he preached over a 40 mile circuit in the Tennessee River Association in Ala.
For the past 12 years, Rev. Hill had resided in Wilbarger County, making his home with his son, J. A. Hill. Parents: Oran HILL and Elizabeth CUSTER.
