Be it remembered that I Thomas Hatcher of Loudoun Co & State of Virginia being in my perfect senses do make and ordain this my Last will and testament this fourteenth day of fifth Month in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighteen that is as soon after my decease as may be convenient for my executors to pay all my just debts and funeral Expenses then the remainder of my estate to be disposed of in manner and form following to wit. ---
First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Rebecca Hatcher all that Tract of land that I purchaised of my brother William Hatchers Estate with purtenances thereto belonging in Lieu of a tract of Land Lying in Loudoun & Fauquier Countys with her consent which was left her by her father Isaac Nichols to her her heirs or assigns forever also all the moveable property that we be in possession of at my decease.

Second I give and bequeath to my Eldest Son Samuel Hatcher all this plantation that we now live on willed to me by my father William Hatcher to him his heirs or assigns forever he yielding and paying to his mother Rebecca Hatcher two hundred dollars every year if demanded during her natural life.

Third I give and bequeath to my second son Joseph Hatcher all that tract of land lying in Loudoun & Fauquier Countys which was willed to her by her father Isaac Nichols and part purchased of his sons Isaac & Sam'l Nichols to him his heirs forever he yealding and paying to his mother Rebecca Hatcher two hundred Dollars every year if demanded during her natural life.

Fourth I give and bequeath to my grandson Mahlon B. Hatcher son of Ann Bishop dec'd one hundred acres of my Land Lying in the County of Belmont & State of Ohio on the north end of my half Section but if he should die under age and without issue then it is to be my son Joseph Hatchers to him I give and bequeath the remainder part of the half section be it more or less to him his heirs and assigns forever.

Fifth I direct my Executors to pay to William Seaton my grand Son of my daughter Margery Seaton deceased when he should arrive at full age to demand it the sum of three thousand Dollars with the one thousand they have paid to his father Hiram Seaton and the Interest that shall be due on it which said Thousand with the interest is to be a part of the three thousand.

Sixth I give and bequeath to my two sons Samuel & Joseph Hatcher two shares of Little River Turnpike road and one half share on Ashleys Gap Turnpike road to be equally divided between them.

Seventh I nominate and appoint my two sons Sam'l Hatcher and Jo's Hatcher Exor's of this my Last will and Testament this annulling and revoking all former will by me made heretofore. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my had and seal in presence of Samuel Nichols, George Tavenor, James Hoge.

Note 2, Parents of Mahlon B. Hatcher:
While the mother of Mahlon B. Hatcher is identified as Ann Bishop, "which" son of Thomas who is his father is not identified. It is often speculated that Thomas Jr. is his father, but Thomas Jr made no mention of Mahlon B. in his will. Note above that the legacy to Mahlon will pass to Joseph if Mahlon does not reach adulthood. In Rebecca's will, she leaves the land she receives above to her son Samuel and grandson Gourley R. Hatcher. Gourley is the only legal son of Joseph, who is deceased at the time of her will. Gourley is to receive the land, but he has to pay Mahlon B. Hatcher "$200 out of his half of the land & personal estate." Joseph Hatcher inherits if Mahlon dies young, and Joseph's son must cover the legacy to Mahlon. Add to this the fact that Mahlon B. Hatcher names his first son Joseph T. Hatcher. It is beleivable that the father of Mahlon is Joseph rather than Thomas Jr., who makes no mention of him. Parents: William HATCHER and Ann VAN SANDT.

I William Hatcher of the County of Loudoun in the Colony of Virginia being in reasonable good health and sound mind and memory thanks be given to the Almighty for the same but calling to mind the Mortality of my body I therefore do order this my last will and Testament in manner and form following. Viz:
First, I will that all my just debts and funeral expenses first be paid and discharged by my executors hereafter named.

Second, I give and bequeath unto my son John two equal shares of my personal estate that is to be divided into four equal shares after my son's Williams part is taken out.

Third, I give and bequeath unto my son James one equal share of that part of my personal estate which is to be divided.

Sixth, I give and bequeath to my son Thomas the Plantation he now lives on joining lands with John Pickett, William Nichols and others containing two hundred acres more or less to him his Heirs and Assings forever.

Seventh, I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Gibson one equal share of that part of my estate which is to be divided.

Eighth, I give unto my daughter Sarah Russell the sum of ten shillings currency.

Ninthly and lastly, I nominate my son William Hatcher to be sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revolting and disanulling all former and other wills by me in any wise made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
