Johann Crecelius was born to Johann Christoph Crecelius, a Magistrate in Heringen, Amt. Kirberg, Germany. He attended Gymnasium (academic high school) in Idstein and the University of Glassen in Germany. At Easter time 1707 he was appointed a Deacon in Kirberg and on 08-24-1711 he became Deacon in Mossback near Amt. Wiesbaden, Germany. 11-07-1715 he was Pastor at Burgschwalbach. The church called him to Reichelsheim, Germany on 07-23-1723 where he was Pastor for 37 years.
He announced his engagement on 07-28, 1716 to Anna Margarethe Senkenberg of Griedberg, Hease, Germany. Anna was the daughter of the Apothecary named Johann Heinrich Senkenberg, (this is the Senkenberg pharmaceutical family whose name was given to the Museum of Natural History in Germany). Johann and Anna were married 09-01-1716 at Kirberg, Germany. Anna was born 02-14-1694 in Friedberg, Hesse, Germany.
Johann died at age 77 years on 02-21-1760, he was a pastor and teacher for 57 years. Anna died 04-22-1753 (59.11 years old) at Reichelsheim, Germany. They had 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters.

Our research showed Otto Rudolph Crecelius being born in Kirberg, Germany about 1718, another researcher has him born 1728 in Reichelsheim Wetterau, Nassau, Germany and puts his death at 59 years of age. His first wife Anna Margareta Zobrodt was born 12-02-1727 in Cronenberg, Germany and was only 13 years old when they married. Otto Rudolph was about 22 years old when he married Anna, on 13th of January, 1750 in Reichelsheim, Germany. Anna Margareta was the daughter of Johann Ludwig Zobrodt. Anna was 29 years 10 months when she died on 01-29-1757. On 07-09-1759 in Reichelsheim, Germany. Otto (age 31) married his second wife Anna Ursula Gerlach. Anna was the daughter of Johann Adam Gerlach (deceased), citizen of Cronenberg, Germany.
Otto left Germany for America, with his second wife and children after 07-07-1764. Otto Rudolph a widower married for the third time on 02-04-1766 at St. Michael's and Zion German Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Marie Elizabetha Diederle who was only 13 years old and born in Germany. (per PA Archive, Series 2, Vol. 9, page 326). The first record in America is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the recorded baptism of Anna Magdelene Crecelius. This is child of third wife and Otto, the record states Anna Madalene Crecelius born 03-30-1765, christened 04-03-1765 at St. Michael's and Zion German Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, PA. This family is recorded living in Frederick County, Maryland from 1767 until 1772.
Otto Rudolph Crecelius served in the Revolutionary War from March 1777 until 07-01-1782. Per service reference to payroll of Captain Philip Shrawder's Ranger North Hampton Company from PA during 02-10-1781 through 07-01-1782. In 1782 the following references are listed:

Note: Many researchers refer to Sergeant Adolph Rudolph Cysillus and Trumpet Major Adolph Crecelius as possibly being our Otto Rudolph Crecelius; however, it is doubtful since our Otto died about 1787 and the Sergeant/Trumpet Major was still alive in 1794. I include the references below only for clarification:

More research is being done on these service records. Otto Rudolph had a son via Maria Elisabetha Diederle name Rudoph Isaac Crecelius. We find Isaac, listed as Criscillis on some documents. Some suspect the Sargeant listed is Otto's son.
Otto Rudolph Crecelius's line is not longer recognized by the DAR. They need further proof that Adolph and Rudolph are the same person. 11-11-2002, chapter code # 3-005-TN states: It appears that Adolph Crysillus/Creselius/Crysilius of Northhampton, PA, is not Otto Rudolph, your ancestor. There is documentation, however, which shows an Otto Rudolph living in Loudoun County, VA in 1770 -71. This corroborates the family history. The descendants of Johann Christophal Crecelius 1652-bef.1724, p. 13, which states that the family left Pennsylvania before 1770. You may want to check in Rockingham Co., VA for service for him. If service cannot be found in Virginia for Otto Rudolph, an alternative would be to try a substitute ancestor in your approach to membership to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Otto Rudolph was a storekeeper and clerk of the court during his first marriage in Reichelsheim Wetterau, Nassau, Germany. He taught at the Frederick Lutheran German School while living in Frederick County, Maryland . Between 1775 and 1777 the family is recorded in Culpeper County, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. There is a record of their son John's birth and daughter Maria Elisabetha being confirmed.
In 1782, Otto Rudolph has land surveyed in Rockingham County, Virginia, but moved to Washington County (then in North Carolina, now in Tennessee) prior to his death in 1787 per land deeds for Washington County.
His will states; wife Elizabeth Crecelius and son John Godhard Crecelius, my two sons John and Jacob to receive two-thirds of my estate. My eldest son John Cathard Crecelius to receive 1/2 of my land at the town where he new lives, balance of the estate to be divided among my other children; Elizabeth, Barbary, Catherine, Isaac, Dolly, John Godhard, Margaret, Jacob A. My eldest son, John Cathard and his wife Elizabeth Crecelius to be jointly my sole executors. The will was signed in his hand written name with a seal and witness was James Cash, Abraham Riffe, and Philip Anderson.
His wife Maria Elisabeth died in Washington County in 1790 and is buried in the cemetery at the Old Dutch Meeting House.

Rudolph Isaac CRECELIUS^{667,668,669,670,671} was born on 31 March 1772 in Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, USA. He died on 14 April 1852 at the age of 80 in Whitley County, Kentucky, USA. He was buried in April 1852 in Jellico Creek Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky, USA. Rudolph Isaac Crecelius was the son of Otto Rudolph Crecelius and his third wife Maria Elisabetha Diederle-Crecelius. Maryland German Church Records, Volume 3, Noodle Doosey Press, 19 with Frederick S. Weiser, editor shows the following -- Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland - birth of Rudolph Isaac Creselius born 31 March, 1772 and his baptism, 29 April, 1772 per Evangelical Lutheran Church records.
He was known by the name of Isaac Criscillis in Whitley County, Kentucky. It is not known why he changed the spelling of his last name, but is not wonder since his birth record didn't even spell his name correctly. His children are all found under the spelling of Criscillis. Cannot find where he legally had it changed.
Isaac inherited land from his father in 1787 in Washington County, North Carolina (now Tennessee) and appears on tax lists there from 1793 to 1797. On 04-17-1798 he bought 207 acres of land in Green County, NC/TN from Samuel Baker. Isaac then sold his land in Washington County, NC/TN to Conrad Kiker. We believe he is also recorded under the name Isaac Carzeless of Greene County as buying 50 acres of land from Robert C. Gordon. It is believed he left Green County about 1818. He is recorded as buying 352 acres of land in Overton County, TN from Cornelius Swain. The family left Overton about 1822 and followed the Wilderness Road into Kentucky, settling in Whitley County, Kentucky area. He is recorded as buying land from Josiah Smith on 06-16-1823. His eldest daughter married in Whitley County, KY.
His will was date 11-07-1830 and proved on 04-19-1952. He was 80 at the time of death and 20 when he married. He is buried at Jellico Creek Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky.
