Clarence didmostly farm work around Toppenish and Wapato, once tried to establish agoat dairy near Wahkiacus and at the same time was working in the mill atBingen, Wash. The goat dairy didn't work out and they moved back to theToppenish area where he again worked for local farmers. Leta developedcancer in her thigh and died at Toppenish at the age of 49. He had three daughters and four sons. The daughter Margaret married Zephaniah Beal; Ruth married William Campbell, and resided near Beallsville, in West Pike Run township, and Mary, who became the wife of William Hargrove, also lived near that town. The Hargrove and Beall families both lived and died in this county, but Mr. Campbell, who was a speculator, sold his property here and removed to Ohio. The sons of James Crawford were Ephraim, John, William, and Joseph, all of whom lived upon adjoining farms in Luzerne township, Fayette Co. At the death of James Crawford the ferry property on the Fayette County side of the river was inherited by his son John, and the salt-works on the Washington County side came into possession of the son Joseph. Of the property of Josiah Crawford, one of the early settlers, the ferry-site is owned by his nephew, Josiah Crawford, Jr., and the land in Washington County is owned by the heirs of Richard Thistlewait. Nov. 16, 1991, and wascremated and her ashes were scattered at sea.

Neva did a little of the farm work when she was young, and worked forneighbors as Leta and Faye had done, but was not cut out for that. Withthe help of her Uncle Ned Roberts, she went to business school in Yakima.She met her first husband, Anderson, while in school, and married him twoweeks later. He was soon transferred to Fort Lewis and then toCalifornia, and she followed him there. When he came back from the war,he started heavy drinking and apparently beat her up a few times. Shedivorced him, but stayed in California as a Secretary, finally going towork for Baker Commodities, a tallow and rendering company, where shestayed for the rest of her working life, retiring when her healthdeteriorated to a point where she was not able to work. When her secondhusband, Mason, died, she had to sell his business (Neon signs) to meetall of the obligations.

Neva later developed an interest in fantasy and astrology, also somehealth problems including a heart bypass and emphysema, and with all thatshe developed mental problems. It was determined that she could not livealone, and moved to Washington to be near Bessie and Mona, but afterBessie died, Neva moved into a retirement home in Downey, CA. As timewent on she became almost blind, but kept up her lifelong reading bylistening to tapes from the library there. She apparently was an unhappyperson most of her life.
