REF: MANUSCRIPT OF MAE TWITCHELL - The earli est documented record we have found for George L. Click in Washington Co. Tenn is 1801 when he paid one white poll tax. The tax lists of 1793 through 1799 do not show George L. Click. The list for 1800 is missing entirely.

1805 is s hown paying taxes on 241 acres; presumably this was the land owned by his fathe r, Lewis Click. (David Click paid taxes on what appears to be the same 241 acre s the following year. George L. Click begins by 1810 paying taxes on 140 to 14 4 acres of what is probably a portion of Lewis Click's land and continued throu gh 1815. Malachi Click pays tax on the remaining 100 acres of Lewis Clicks' lan d during the same approximate period 1810- 1815.

It is my theory that George L. Click and Peggy Jones were living on the Lewis Click land during this perio d. Malachi Click was also apparently living on a portion of Lewis Click's land . It is my belief that Lewis Click did not die until about 1815, perhaps all o f them living together in one household prior to Lewis Click's death.

George L. Click, sometimes referred to as George Click, SR in the old records, bought no land in Washington Co. until 16 Feb 1818 at which time he bought 160 acres which had belonged to his father Lewis Click, deceased, this being the 160 acre s sold by heirs of Lewis Click.

On 24 Sept 1818 he was given a DEED OF CONVE YANCE by HANNAH GOURLEY, Admrx. of Thomas Gourley, deceased, for 40 acres of la nd which the said Thomas Gourley had sold to Lewis Click in 1794. Lewis Click had paid Gourley for the land, and then later endorsed the 40 acre tract over t o George L. Click prior to Lewis Click's death.

15 Sept 1820 Washington Co. Tenn Deed Book 17 pg 120-121, George L. Click, SR sells this 40 acre tract for $100 to George Click, JR. George L. Click SR is NOT the father of George Click JR (son of Malachi Click) The "senior" and "junior" seemed to have been used m erely as a means of identification.
