2. Biography: Captain William Briscoe, who came from Virginia, andsettled in Madison County, Kentucky, on the waters of Otter Creek, nearthe town of Richmond was afterwards established. He acquired a homesteadadjoining that of his wife's cousin John Reid, whose wife, Mary Woods, adaughter of Colnel John Woods and Susannah Anderson his wife, ofAlbermarle County, Virginia. He and his brother-in-law, Michael Wallaceoccupying the homes near each other, if not adjoining. He acquired adeed to his lands, July 24, 1787 from one Peter Taylor and his wife. Onthe 24th of July 1803, he and John Reid had an exchange of small piecesof land, when he and his wife Elizabeth made a deed to John Reid offourteen acres. October 07, 1794, County Court Order, towit; "Orderedthat William Briscoe extend his road from Widow Blacks to Otter Creek."He held the title of Captain. The order in alloting hands ot MichaelWallace, surveyor of the State Road, includes Captain Briscoe's hands.He was a Captain in the Revolutinary Army. He died between the 9th dayof December 1830, and the 3rd day of January 1831, for his will bearingthe date of December 09, 1830, was probated January 03, 1831, andrecorded in the Clerk's office of the Madison County Court, in his willhe appointed his son-in-law, Samuel Logan, and his friedn WilliamGoodloe, executors.
