In 1655 he received a house with 12-1/2 acr es on the west side of High Street, between the properties of Richard But ler and Thomas Curtis; it became known as the Old John Whitmore House. G eorge served as constable in 1657. His will is dated 9 January 1662, pro bated 10 August 1663; it left his holdings to his wife Elizabeth, to be p assed on to his son George. Henry WOLCOTT^{4232,4233,4234,4736} was christened on 6 December 1578 in Lidiard, Somerset, England.³⁶⁹⁸ He died on 30 May 1655 in Windsor, Hartford County, CT. Henry was a gentleman of affluent circumstances. He lived in Tolland, ne ar Taunton in Somersetshire, England. On the death of his eldest brother , Christopher, he inherited the family estate in Tolland, England, includ ing the manor house, mill, etc. He never actually lived there, because h e had already left England before gaining possession of the house. Whil e he lived in Tolland, he and his wife lived in a house connected to th e village mill.
Henry became a Puritan. He sold estate in England of L8,000 prepara tory to removal. His three sons accompanied him to New England, leavin g in England two daughters and his youngest son, aged 5 years, who rejoin ed the family in America between 1631 and 1641. The final "t" was not ad ded to his name until he removed to America.
He was first at Dorchester. On 19 October 1630 he was a freeman i n Boston. In 1636 he went with his family to Windsor CT. He is one of th e 19 men mentioned in the Connecticut charter. Mr. Wolcott, Mr. Ludlow , Mr. Newberry, Mr. Stoughton and Major Mason were the five gentlemen wh o undertook the settling of the town of Windsor. Henry was a member of t he assembly in 1640 and annually re-elected until his death. He was admit ted to the church at Windsor 1640 .
Francis Brown was a servant of Henry Wolcott of Windsor. He bough t out the residue of his term in 1649.
Henry died 30 May 1655. His estate was valued at L764.8s.10d .
"Decease of the Fathers of New England 1655 ... Henry Wolcott, th e ancestor of the governors of Connecticut by this name, d. age 78."

The will of Henry Wolcott is dated 30 May 1655, dictated on the da y of his death. It reads:
I henry Woolcott, sick of body but of prfect memory, doe make and or daine this my last will and testament in manner anf forme as ffollowing : Ffirst, I commend my soule to God my maker, hoping assuredly through h e only merit of Jesus Christ my savior to bee made prtaker of life everla sting, and I comend my Body to ye earth whereof it was made. It. I wil l yt my wife shall have all my house lott, orchard, garden, hopyard, an d my lott in plimouth meadow, during he tearme of her life. Allsoe I giv e unto my wife two of Cowes and halfe of my household goods in my dwellin g house. Alsoe I leave my land in England to Henry my Eldest sonn, witho ut encumbrances. Alsoe I give unto him my two Books of Marters. Also e I give to Christopher, my second sonn, my lott in ye great meadow afte r my death, And my house lott and housing upon it after ye death of my wi fe, he paying out of it thirtie pounds after my wifes decease as I shal l further appoint. Alsoe I give to George my third sonn, the five pound s hee owes mee and five pounds more. Allsoe I give to Simon, my younges t sonne, all my land on ye easterly side of the great River and my lott a tt Arrammetts. Allsoe to the children of Henry my Eldest sonne, five pou nds to Henry ye eldest of ym and to ye rest of ym fortie shillings a peec e. Allsoe I give all ye rest of my goods to bee equally devided amongs t all my children. Allsoe I appoint Henry Wolcott my sonne to be oversee re of this my last will and testament. Allsoe my will is yt Christover m y sonne shall have my lott in plimouth meadow after ye decease of my wife . Allsoe my will is yt my debts should bee first paid.
October 4, 1655. The above written being testified to the Court b y Mr. Henry Wolcott, upon oath, and by Mr. Wichfield to be the last wil l and testament of Mr. Henry Wolcott, senior, deceased, the Court approba ted of the same, and ordered it to be recorded.

Over the graves of Henry and Elizabeth there is an arch monument o f brown stone, which was erected by Henry's son-in-law Matthew Griswold . It was fashioned after the trunk Henry brought with him from England , and is said to be the oldest monument of this style in the country. I t was still standing in 1977. Parents: .

Henry was buried on 13 July 1680 in Windsor, Hartford County, CT. Henry emigrated to America with his parents in 1630. He was admitted a f reeman at Boston 1 April 1634.
Henry was an importing merchant who acquired considerable wealth. H e became prominent in public life, serving as deputy in 1660 and 1661, an d magistrate from 1662 until his death.
Rev. Carroon gives the same date of marriage as in the Windsor recor d, but gives the place of the marriage as Boston, Massachusetts. The Wol cott genealogy says that he resided at Windsor in 1636, and there marrie d Sarah Newberry 18 November 1641.
He appears on the 1669 list of freemen: "A list taken of all the fre emen that live within the limits of Windsor, in reference to the order o f the Generall Court, May 13: [16]'69, requiring ye same. Octobr 11th 16 69... Mr. H. Wolcott Senr"
The will of Henry Wolcott sen. of Windsor is dated 21 September 1670 . The abstract reads:
"I Henry Wolcott sen. of Windsor ... to my wife ... son Henry ... so n John ... son Samuel ... son Josiah .. daughters Sarah, Mary & Hannah .. . My wife to be Executrix, and my brother-in-law Capt. Benjamin Newbery a nd my son Henry Wolcott to be Overseers." Inventory was taken 19 and 2 4 July 1680 by Capt. Benjamin Newbery, John Loomis sen., Thomas Bissel l (Windsor); by Nathaniel Boreman & Samuel Steele (Wethersfield); it amou nted to L2743-12-00 at Windsor, L1234-04-00 at Wethersfield, total L3977- 16-00.
