On the death of his eldest brother , Christopher, he inherited the family estate in Tolland, England, includ ing the manor house, mill, etc. He never actually lived there, because h e had already left England before gaining possession of the house. Whil e he lived in Tolland, he and his wife lived in a house connected to th e village mill. Henry became a Puritan. He sold estate in England of L8,000 prepara tory to removal. His three sons accompanied him to New England, leavin g in England two daughters and his youngest son, aged 5 years, who rejoin ed the family in America between 1631 and 1641. The final "t" was not ad ded to his name until he removed to America. He was first at Dorchester. On 19 October 1630 he was a freeman i n Boston. In 1636 he went with his family to Windsor CT. He is one of th e 19 men mentioned in the Connecticut charter. Mr. Wolcott, Mr. Ludlow , Mr. Newberry, Mr. Stoughton and Major Mason were the five gentlemen wh o undertook the settling of the town of Windsor. Henry was a member of t he assembly in 1640 and annually re-elected until his death. He was admit ted to the church at Windsor 1640 . Francis Brown was a servant of Henry Wolcott of Windsor. He bough t out the residue of his term in 1649. Henry died 30 May 1655. His estate was valued at L764.8s.10d . "Decease of the Fathers of New England 1655 ... Henry Wolcott, th e ancestor of the governors of Connecticut by this name, d. age 78." The will of Henry Wolcott is dated 30 May 1655, dictated on the da y of his death. It reads: Over the graves of Henry and Elizabeth there is an arch monument o f brown stone, which was erected by Henry's son-in-law Matthew Griswold . It was fashioned after the trunk Henry brought with him from England , and is said to be the oldest monument of this style in the country. I t was still standing in 1977. Parents: . He appears on the 1669 list of freemen: "A list taken of all the fre emen that live within the limits of Windsor, in reference to the order o f the Generall Court, May 13: [16]'69, requiring ye same. Octobr 11th 16 69... Mr. H. Wolcott Senr" The will of Henry Wolcott sen. of Windsor is dated 21 September 1670 .
