Alice Settle must have died abt 1789 because in 1790 he was married to his second wife "Bibbe Bruce", widow of Caleb Bruce.
A Trover Suit filed in Greenville South Carolina in 1807 explains these events.
The suit regarded ownership of a slave named Chloe, her son Ben and daughters Rose, Viny, and Fanny formerly belonging to Caleb Bruce, by 1807 in possession of William Welch through his marriage to Bibbe Bruce.
