BIOGRAPHY: A granddaughter wrote: I remember hearing my mother tell incidents in her life that makes me know Grandmother [Margaret Scott Harmon] was a wonderful woman and taught her children to be humble and honest. They were poor and she taught the girls to sew and knit and even weave. Mother told us how her mother impressed on her children how wrong it was to take even a pin from anyone unless it was given to them. One day my mother and one of her sisters were delivering dairy products to customers in Logan and when leaving the home of a seamstress by the way of the backyard, mother was excited to see many beautiful scraps of material in the yard and concluded since the scraps had evidently been thrown away, it would not be stealing to take them home. She gathered up some of the choice bits which were not even large enough for quilt blocks and took them home. I don't remember the distance from the farm at Providence to the home of the seamstress in Logan, but mother made the walk twice that day as she had to return with the scraps and most humbling of all--had to apologize to the seamstress. My personal memory of grandmother is quite vague as I moved from Rigby when I was 7 and moved to Carey. She died when I was 8. I remember she sat in a high-backed rocking chair most of the time, and although she wasn't cross, I remember I felt very nervous to stay in the room long. I was afraid to make even a little noise and I can't remember ever having grandmother notice me ot talk to me, but I'm sure she must have. Her hair was beautifully white and I do remember I wanted so to touch it, but I was afraid to. My mother, and the other of Grandma's children, treated her as if she were a queen. Perhaps I got the idea she was not quite human. I thought of her as somebody very, very special and remember what a thrill it was when the family bought grandmother the satin for a new dress. I believe it was grey. I remember she wanted red, but felt it was not suitable for an older woman.

Spouse: Ammon HARMON. Margaret SCOTT and Ammon HARMON2636,2637 were married on 2 May 1858 in Marble Rock, Floyd, Iowa. Family records have had Shell Rock, Butler, Iowa as place of marriage for a long time. Since Ammon and Alma both married sisters on the same day and Alma has a marriage certificate in his pension papers testifying to being married in Floyd County, it didn't make sense to me that Ammon would be married in the next county over. I found his marriage record in Floyd County, Iowa on the internet:
