According to research of Judy Allen Neese, Archibald Allen also live in Fauquier Co, VA at the time of his enlistment, serving in the Rev. War. During the War he also lived in Washington Co, MD for 4 years. He then lived in Nelson Co, KY for just under 20 years before moving to IN until 1828. Then he moved to IL where he died in Putnam Co,. He is burined in the Magnolia Cemetary, Magnolia, Putnam Co, IL
"He was a Revolutionary War veteren. He enlisted in 1781 and served for 2
months. The records I found indicate that he served honorably, just not
for very long. The regiment he was in was commanded by Col Elias
Edmonds and Capt Charles Shelton. I looked up these two in Rev War
records and couldn't find them. He may have belonged to a regiment that
was quickly raised to defend an area and was disbanded when the threat
passed. I also found that he died 2/23/1846 in Putnam County Il. His
application for Revolutionary War pension was pretty interesting so I'll
retype it here for you:
Allen, Archibald, R102, VA Line, appl 5 Nov 1840 aged 90 yrs 7th Feb
next, b Westmoreland Cty VA, lived in Fauquier Cty VA at enl, during the
war also lived Washington Cty MD 4 yrs thence to Nelson Cty KY 18 or 19

application for pension. His pension was eventually denied because he had served less than 6 months."

(21) Virginia Military Land Warrants

I also found an Archabald Allen married to an Anna Colbreath in Botecourt Co, VA Mar 4, 1815. The VA Genealogist V1:149 shows war records of the Rev War, and Edward Allen who had earned land grant rights that went to his only heirs (in 1835) Archibald, Cornelius and Thomas W. G. Allen.
I saw a note in V 3:181 of someone looking for the parentage of an Archibald Allen who died in King George Co, VA in 1762-and his wife Elizabeth.
There is a reference in 15:37 to Capt. Archibald Allen's Co of the Upper Battalian in 1780 (may have been a MD outfit, not VA) in reference to another soldier in his command.

I also found in the Magazine of VA Genealogy a list of attendees of the Llangollen School for Boys (in VA, later reopened in KY and still may exist today) in 1811-1812 with an Archibald Allen's son Thomas. Wonder what family this is?

We know that our Archibald Allen was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia February 7,1750. From there his journey took he and his family from Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. From the Daughters of the American Revolution Patriots book we find that Archibald Allen served briefly in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in 1781 and served for two months. It seems he and his neighbors were defending their land and fought in the battle of Jamestown. The record indicates he served honorably under the command of Col. Elias Edmonds and Capt. Charles Shelton. At the time of his enlistment he was living in Fauquier County, Virginia. During the war, we find him living in Washington County, Maryland (probably because his land was in the thick of the battle) where he lived for four years. From Maryland, he moved to Nelson County, Kentucky where he lived for 18-19 years. For some reason, he picked up and moved to Indiana until 1828. Then to Illinois where it seems he lived with his son in Putnam County, Illinois until his death February 23, 1846.
Sometime between 1782 and 1814 he married Martha Hatfield. They had three sons that we know of: Dimit was born in Meade Co., Kentucky; John; and Eli who was born in 1785 and died in 1875. Later Archibald married Anne McClehoe and they had one son, Archibald Allen Jr. who was born Janurary 29, 1799 in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky. He died March 30, 1855 in Crawford County, Indiana.

Archibald’s application for Pension:

Allen, Archibald R102, VA line appled 11/5/1840 at age 90 years Feb 7th,

born Westmoreland Cnty, VA, lived in Fauquier Cnty VA at time of
enlistment, during the war also had lived in Washington Cnty, MD for
four years. Moved to Nelson County KY where he lived 19 years. Then
moved to IN until 1828, then moved to IL was living in Putnam Count IL
at time of application.

Now I have broke out the Atlas and looked at the Kentucky area s that
Archibald has appeared in the above time line.

Hardin County is approximately 60 miles west (as the crow flies)
from Mercer County 1785 to 1788 has children in Hardin County. In

1785 has a son in Mercer County. Is on Tax Records in Hardin County

Washington County is approximately 20 miles west of Mercer County
(next county west) Archibald is on Tax Records in Washington County
and Hardin County at same time.

Nelson County is approximately 15 miles north west of Washington
County (one county N/W) and in 1788 he marries Ann McClehoe according
to marriage record.

Pension application states that he was living in Nelson County for 19
years after leaving Washington County MD.
That would be he left Washington County Md around 1785 and from 1785 to
1804 was living in Nelson County KY.

Then for some reason between this time period of supposedly living in
Nelson County he and Anne McClehoes have a son in Lincoln County Ky
some 100 miles south east of Nelson County. WHY?????????

Archibald has disappeared from the Hardin County Tax Rolls as of
1800. Was this the same Archibald Allen and if so why did he neglect
to include his residence in Hardin County in his Pension Application.

Judy Neese claims Dimit is the son of Archibald and Martha and Pam
Marrillie believes Dimit (b 1812) is the son of James Allen.
Both person state Dimit was born in Meade County. Meade County is
right on the Kentucky / Indiana boarder and is approximately 60 miles
from Crawford County IN (as the crow flies)
Meade and Hardin County boarder each other.

All this analyzing has raised many questions in who Archibald Allen is
and where he was living in Kentucky.

Archibald strikes a cord, as the Revolutionary war Vet Archibald Allen
settled on the Orange/Crawford border and attended an Orange county
Church. He had a son Archiblad in Crawford county born 1799 or so. Arch
sr. was born in 1750. Before moving to Crawford he livee in Harrison
county Ind. Hardin, Washington , and maybe Nelson county Ky, Washington
county Md and Fauqueir and Westmoreland counties Va. His father and
grandfather were Archibald Allen. There was also an Archibald Allen of
the same age in Jeffferson county Ky. This one is more likely to be a
close relative. On the other hand my Kendall were in Orange and my
ancestors sisters married men who settled in Clark county ( ie. the
Jacksons, McKinleys, and maybe the Scotts)
