Her parents moved to Nauvoo and her earliest childhood was spent playing around the temple where her father was working and on the wharf gathering bits of sugar from the empty barrels in which sugar was shipped. From here her parents moved to Montrose, and then to Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1850, her parents crossed the plains with an ox team. She was eight years of age and walked most of the way, gathering buffalo chips with which to cook their meals. After reaching Salt Lake, she carried chips from the canyon when they fell from the woodman's axe, or gathered bulbs of the Sego Lily and other plants which were used for food. Her father was one of the men left in Salt Lake City at the time of the move South as it was called, to touch the torch to the homes if they were molested by Johnston's Army, when it was permitted to enter the city.
On October 18, 1859, she married Oliver N. Harmon. Then her life was spent with her husband in pioneering and helping build new places. Although she had no education, she was very active in the Church, and a faithful member of the Relief Society, paying her tithing on every cent she made. A good deal of her time was spent in working for others in time of sickness and trouble. She passed away Feb 2, 1924, at the age of 82. They were the parents of ten children. Six lived to raise families. She left 210 descendants.
