According to Kay Crum, Johannes and his four brothers emigrated from Rotterdam
on the Queen Elizabeth, arriving in Philadelphia 16 Sep 1738. In 1740 he moved
to Mannheim, Lancaster Co., and in 1764 Johannes and Catherine moved to the
Monocacy River German Settlement in Frederick Co, MD. This information is
highly suspect as most other reference works show that Johannes never left

Peter RISSER^790,2829 was born on 3 September 1713 in Friedelsheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. He died in February 1804 at the age of 90 in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Risser Mennonite Cemetery, Mt. Joy Township, Pennsylvania.
"Peter Risser was one of the earliest patentees in Mount Joy Township. He immigrated to America on September 3, 1739 from Berne, Switzerland. Settling in northern Mount Joy Township on a Moravian Church tract, he obtained 271 acres and 46 acres and 2 and three-quarter perches. This land was then in Donegal Township. Here he built a barn and house east of the road in front of the present Amos Risser, Jr. buildings. Here he farmed, reared his family for God, and provided a place not only for burying the community dead, but also for a house of worship for his co-religionists. In 1775 he and his wife sold one acre of land to Christian Haldeman and John Leaman, trustees of the Mennonite congregation in Mount Joy Township.

He fled Europe not only because of the pitiable conditions there. It is reported that he often spoke of how he fled, as Jonah did, from an ordination. However, he was ordained for the backwoods area soon after coming to his new habitat. He served longer than any other minister in Lancaster Mennonite Conference and probably longer than anyone else in the American Mennonite Church.

As an outstanding minister, he left his mark not only on his family but also on the whole community, which included more than just Mennonites. His descendants are called Risser in much of Lancaster County but Reeser in Salisbury Township and Reesor in Markham, York County, Ontario, Canada."
