M. at Sudbury, removed to Rutland, of which township he was a proprietor, and had house lots, No. 34 and 60, laid out to him in 1716, which were confirmed to him at the first town meeting held there 1722, and town offices conferred upon him. He was one of the founders of the chh. in that place, of which Mr. Thomas Frink was pastor elect, and ord. there, Nov. 1, 1727. Edward and his wife Rachel were admitted to marl. chh., April 24, 1726, probably with view to his aid in founding a chh. at Rutland. At the ordination of Mr. Frink, the Rev. Mr. Breck of Marl. with his delegate, Dea. Edward Rice, attended and took part in the services on that occasion. Edward Rice was in the service, 1724, in Capt. Samuel Wright's company; and after his return held offices in the town, was captain in the militia, and a useful member in the chh. He d. at Rutland in his 67th year, and his widow Rachel, of small pox, Jan. 1, 1760. No record of their chil. has been found at Sud., Marl., Worcester, or Rutland. The names of six of them have been obtained from some of his aged descendants, and are thus rescued from the verge of oblivion. They had others, but their names are buried with them.
