JOhnson. The Plimpton/Plympton surname was not common in New England at that
time. An 1885 genealogy of the Plimpton family by Levi Chase indicated that
all of the early Plymptons were related. The name appears to be an American
corruption of the English Plumpton. According to Mr. Chase, the Plimptons
arrived in MA in abt 1640. The founder of the family was John Plimpton who was
born in Cambridgeshire or Lincolnshire, England and arrived in America at the
age of 20 as an indentured servant ot a Dr. George Alcocke.
