James Pawley's Death

He departed this life April 02, 1862.

On March 24th he ate his dinner very hearty.

At night he said he would eat no supper.

He thought he could try and lay down that knight.

He had not laid down for about three day and knights.

On Friday he set up in the bed and shouted and praised the Lord most allday.

Till evening he struck speechless. Saturday he got up out of the bed and
walked out in the porch and in the kitchen and sat down a little while and
went back in the other room again and set down a little while and thenwent
to bed and never spoke a word nor we could not get him to speak a word nor
he never ate another taste but lay there till the next Wednesday knightjust
at nine o'clock he died. He was sick just four years to the very hour.

16 and they went to Missouri, in 1849. First locating in St. Joseph,Mo.,
later on a farm near Turney, Clinton Co., Mo. Her husband preceded her in
death 33 years ago. She was the mother of 13 children, 4 dying ininfancy and 2
passed away after maturing and they were Mrs. Alhouse, Mrs. Shearer.Those
surviving besides Mrs. Gilmer, are Mrs. C. Knox, Mrs. Matilda McCrackenof
Cameron, Mo., Mrs. Albert Mallory, of Okmulzer, Oklahoma., James, JohnMoore of
Cameron and Asa Moore, Milton, Oregon. Buried in the Harlin Cemetery,North of Turney,

The following is a letter that Mr. Wendell Freeman of Rineyville, Kentucky
wrote to Sandy McAviney January 29, 1987.....

I received your letter of inquiry...and find your great great grandmother,
Susannah Pawley, was a sister of my grandfather James Alderson Pawley
I was born in the same log house where Susannah was born, Greatgrandfather
Jams Pawley built about 1818 when he first married and raised 13 of his 13
children there, 5 children by his first wife and 7 children by his secondwife,
losing one child in child infancy. My grandfather and mother were alsoborn
there.

I have the family bible of James and Nancy Pawley with dates of several
relatives recorded, which should be the proof of your need.

The Pawley and Smith descendants are quite numerous and stretch fromcoast to
coast. Some of the Pawleys have changed the name to Pauley, and public
records recorded that way even when it was used as Pawley.

My mother remembered Susannah well, and she made a visit to Kentucky in1896
to visit her brother, James Alderson Pawley, and sisters Mrs. MaryClarissa Enlow,
and Mrs. Matilda Woodring. Mother the age of 14 through there was no onelike Aunt
Susannah.
