He was born, married, lived and died all his life at the same place.
This is the place that his father, Peter Newkirk, had homesteaded in
1836, later known as the Bud Newkirk place.

All of his life was wrapped up in this one place where he was born, all
of his brothers and sisters were born, all four of his children were born
and even some of his grandchildren.

Napoleon or "Bud" was only 13 when his father died, but we find that he
heired the following: the west half Of the S.E. quarter of Section 24 and
the SW quarter of the NE quarter of Section 24 all in Township 44 and
Range 17. Also, the SW quarter of Section 19, Township 44 and Range 16
containing in all 55 acres more or less valued at $1200.

The bushwhackers burned the old Peter Newkirk house during the Civil War.
This was the house that Napoleon was born in. A new house was built
during the War, and was in this house where all of Napoleon and Nannies
