John Lashbrook, son of William and Dolly Crecelius-Lashbrook was born 12-15-1794 in Washington County, Tennessee. This part of Tennessee was formally part of North Carolina due to boundary changes. Tennessee was formed from Washington County, North Carolina in 1796 with additional boundary changes around 1830. John and his sister Elizabeth moved westward with his parents in 1810 or 1811. Lost River Chapter page 21 and page 148 have record of Elizabeth, John and their father William as settling for a while in Harrison County, Indiana near Jeffersonville, IN after the death of Dolly along the banks of the Silver Creek. The Silver Creek was important in the settling of the Indiana Territory because it begins in Clark County, widens until it flows through Floyd County on into the Ohio River. It is recorded that the route to Vincennes from New Albany follows the old Buffalo tracks along the Silver Creek. John and his family moved westward blazing their way through dense forest inhabited by, Indians and all kinds of wild animals; such as, panthers, bears, wild cats, deer, turkey, etc. It appears John lived in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana; however, we can only find record of Hetty living in Maryland and Indiana. Hetty and John settle near French Lick, Indiana. This area was know as Flat Lick Springs and is near the northern border of Jackson Township, Orange County, Indiana. The original French settlers named the area Licks because of the many Licks (creeks) where the deer came to lick water. John married Esther "Hetty" Hopkins in Harrison County, Indiana on 06-22-1814 as record in First Book on page 230. Hetty was born 04-04-1792 in the state of Maryland. They had 10 known children. The family farm remained in the family from 1818 until 1968. The land deed was originally recorded on 03-07-1887. John was a farmer all his life. Hetty and John are buried at Moore's Ridge Cemetery, Indiana (Probate book 38, page 307-13). Hetty preceded John in death on 07-11-1873 and John died 11-04-1884. Some records indicate John's death year as 1887; (4 and 7 script handwriting can be easily misunderstood). I have not yet been able to confirm which year is correct, most research leans towards 1884.
