The following is from an email received from Gina Burningsky:
"John Birden Keith & family leave McNairy County,Tennessee & arrive in
Carroll County, Arkansas by 1836, with our John Brumbelow, Sr. & family
arriving by 1837 - which is a good year earlier than previous records
indicate for his arrival in Arkansas. We know John's daughter Louvina,
wife of John Gillentine Gooch remained behind in McNairy County,
Tennessee with her husband & family and died there in
1845. In the meantime, the families of Nicholas & Louisa (Brumbelow)
Gillentine & the family of Abijah Keith - clock in to be counted in time
for the 1840 U.S. Census for Crooked Creek Township in Carroll County,
Arkansas. Both Keith families of Nicholas & Louisa, and that of Abijah
remain at least through 1841, as they appear on thetax lists for Carroll
County, Arkansas in 1841. For those of you who aren't sure who John
Birden Keith is, John Birden Keith is the father of George Washington
Keith who later married Neoma "Oma" Brumbelow - youngest daughter of John
Brumbelow Sr. and 1st wife Neoma/Naoma - in Hunt County, Texas in
November 1850.
John Birden Keith is not listed at the time of the 1840 U.S. Censusfor
Carroll County, Arkansas it would be interesting to see if we can find
any Hunt County, Texas records for him though I don't think it was Hunt
County at the time. He does pop up there in time for the 1850 U.S.
Census, as do the families of Nicholas & Louisa (Brumbelow) Keith,
Nichodemus & Elizabeth (Brumbelow) Keith, and Oma Brumbelow, who later
marries John Birden Keith's son, George Washington Keith. Although Abijah
Birden Keith does not appear in the 1850 U.S. Census for Hunt County,
Texas - there is an Abijah Keith listed in the 1850 Tax Payers of Hunt
County, Texas. Nichodemus is not listed as a tax payer, though he is on
the census.
As the 1836 & 1837 Tax lists for Carroll County, Arkansas show John
Birden Keith already residing there, and in 1840 son Abijah has married
and is residing with wife and children in Crooked Creek Township, it is
probably a safe guestimate that Abijah and wife Delila married in Carroll
County, Arkansas.

Nichodemus was listed on the tax roll in Knox County, Tennessee in 1799,
He wasin Bledsoe County in 1812. From 'Bledsoe County, Deed Bk. pg. 176,
14 Nov. 1826' we find that Nichodemus Keith and Margaret his wife, who
was one of the heirs of John Burdin (Borden) dec'd., and her sister Anna
McWilliams, gave Power of Attorney to William Burdin (Borden), of White
County Tennessee, to represent them in the 'John Borden Estate Court
Case' in VA.
In 'Bledsoe County, Deed Bk. F, pg.142' we find this indenture made this
24 Dec. 1829, Jesse Oden, Admin. of John Borden Estate, of the County of
McNairy, Tennessee of theone part and Nichodemus Keith of the County and
State aforesaid of the otherpart, witnesseth that Jesse Oden for the sum
of one hundred and sixty dollars hath sold unto Nichodemus Keith a
certain tract of land containing forty acres in the County of White,
dated the 24th day of June 1814. Registered in the County of McNairy
Tennessee Book A, pg 69, on 29 Dec 1829. Bledsoe County Deed Bk. F, pg
160: This indenture made this 20 Dec 1830, between Nichodemus Keith of
the County of McNairy and State of Tennessee of the one part and Isaac

Hicks (his son-in-law) of the County of Marion in the state aforesaid of
the other part, witnesseth the Nichodemus Keith for the sum of fifty
dollars hath sold unto Isaac Hicks a tract of land containing forty acres
in Bledsoe County on Buffalo Creek of Main Cany Fork occupied by John
Borden. Filed: Nov.,1832.
According to family tradition, he came to America early enough to fight
in the Revolution under Washington, however, we have not been able to
verify this. Again, according to tradition, he settled in Virginia.
From "Genealogy of Virginia Families"' Vol 1, pg. 399, we find the
following article: "Benjamin Borden, Shenandoah Valley Pioneer, Notes On
His Ancestry And Descendants"' by J.A. Kelly, which states on pg 402,
"John Borden (d. 1798) m. Ann Hawkins (?). About 1770 they removed from
Frederick County to Bedford County, Virginia, and a few years later to
Knox County, Tennessee (John Borden was theson of Benjamin Borden
II)(Nine children were listed), the 9th Margaret Borden m. Judge
Nichodemus Keith, of Knoxville." If the statement is true, it appears
that Judge Nichodemus Keith was living in Knoxville,
Tennessee when he married Margaret Borden. They were married about the
year 1776, (estimated from age of children). We have not been able to
find why Nichodemus was called'Judge'. We are inclined to think it was a
title because 'Judge' was nor used in any other record we have found, and
neither have we found it used by anyof his descendants.
The manuscript, "The Keith Family", a partial review as remembered and
reported by George M. Keith, of Abilene, Texas, and John M. Keith, of
South Fort Worth, Texas, from the tradition of their father, Captain John
J. Keith, son of John 'Birden' Keith, was sent to us by Mrs. E. E.
Watson, James Canyon RT, Mayhill, NM 88339. It served as the foundation
for additional research from which we, and many others, accumulated and
developed theinformation to compile this book. Quote from the above
manuscript: " Gabriel and Nichodemus Keith, sons of William Keith, were
Born in Ireland, and cameto America at an early day--early enough to
join the Revolutionary Army-- and fought under Washington, and for every
war this country has engaged in since then, their descendants have
furnished their full quota of soldiers.
Gabriel settled in New York State, and the only descendant I know of is
Mr. George Keith of Socorro, New Mexico, who could probably give an
account of his ancestry.
