...The wife of Elias T. had died, sent children to the Gilmore family and he joined the Confederate Army. Because of his ability and knowledge he was made a buyer of supplies, and was in charge of supplying provisions, arms, munitions, clothing and etc. His activities carried him over most of the South and thru many hazardous positions, however he never participated in any main battle nor fired on any one but marauders. He was very religious and his Bible was a constant companion.
