Captain John ALDEN was born about 1626 in Plymouth, Ma. He died on 14 March 1701/2 at the age of 76. John Alden, Jr. was a sea captain for the colony. In 1692, afte rreturning from a voyage to Quebec to redeem prisoners held by France, h ewas called to Salem and accused of being a Warlock. When he faced the accusing girls it was obvious that they didn't recognize him. They knew only thay he was a wealthy and important Bostonian. He rebuffed them indignantly in the language of an old sea dog. He was sent to prison where he remained for fifteen weeks. He escaped just before nine other accused were executed. He fled to Duxbury but then returned and posted bond. He wa sdischarged after the which panic ended. After a public apology, the judge went to the Aldens to make amends privately for his imprisonment. Th ecaptain never forgot the ordeal and the judge's visits continued unti lthe Captain died.
